Ha Tinh (VNA) – The seafood market in the central province of Ha Tinh has heated up again after competent agencies declared that the regional waters and upper-layer fish are safe.

Over the past months, the marine environment incident in the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue forced consumers to stay away from seafood products.

In Bac Ha market of Ha Tinh city, seafood counters have been busy again since a month ago.

Mostly fish living in the upper layer of the waters such as scad, anchovy and sardine are put up for sale.

Nguyen Thi Suong, a seafood seller, said prices of sea fish have bounced back to the level before the incident, or sometimes climbed higher.

A kilogram of scad costs120,000 VND (5.2 USD) while anchovy is sold for 80,000 VND (3.4 USD) per kilogram.

Many popular seafood markets in Ha Tinh have become crowded again.

In the Ha Tinh city market, over 60 seafood counters resumed their business. Meanwhile in Trai market in Ho Do commune, Loc Ha district, the atmosphere has been bustling for months.

The thriving seafood market and the recent blue-eared pig disease have resulted in declines in the price of pork and beef.

The pork’s bottom prices dropped from 100,000 VND (4.3 USD) to 90,000 VND (3.9 USD) per kilogram while beef prices decreased by 10,000 – 20,000 VND (0.43 – 0.86 USD) to 190,000 VND (8.26 USD) per kilogram.

Phan Van Hung, Head of the provincial Food Safety Agency, said fish on sale in Ha Tinh are mostly those living in the upper layer of the sea, and all frozen seafood contaminated with cadimind due to the incident have been destroyed./.
