Hanoi (VNA) - The General Fisheries Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has evaluated the organisation and capability of forces assigned with fisheries management at sea, with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of fishery control.

The project aims to evaluate the organisation and capability of the forces assigned to manage fishery activities at sea; propose solutions and proper policy for developing these forces, contributing to helping the forces well carry out their functions in monitoring and inspecting fishery activities, ensuring security and order, as well as firmly defending national sovereignty at sea.

In addition, the project summed up the results of all surveys on the organization, management and equipment of fisheries control and inspection forces from the central to grassroots levels.

The project also put forward proposals on completing the legal framework relating to equipment, the management of equipment and specialised equipment, weapons and supporting devices for fishery control forces.

The General Fisheries Department assigned the Fisheries Control Agency to study and use the survey results in organising the apparatus of the fisheries control force  and building legal documents and policies relating to building the force.

In addition, the force is charged with preventing individuals and organisations at home or abroad from damaging seafood resources.

The general department will at first perfect legal documents relating to the agency’s organisation and operations.

The agency will then arrange training courses and appoint fisheries inspectors and other positions on fisheries control vessels.

At present, vessels, uniforms, and members are ready for the force’s debut as soon as possible./.
